Sharing the Gospel is one of the most beautiful acts of love we can offer another person. If you’re reading this, I want to start by saying what a beautiful heart you must have to even consider sharing this life-changing message. That willingness, that love, is the first step.
Here’s my approach to sharing the Gospel, one that has brought both peace to my heart and clarity to my efforts:
1. Pray for the Opportunity
Each day, pray specifically for the person or people God has placed on your heart. Ask Him to create opportunities for you to share the Gospel. Prayer is where the work begins—it softens hearts, opens doors, and reminds us that it’s His plan, not ours.
2. Ask for the Holy Spirit’s Guidance
Before every encounter, I pray for the Holy Spirit to guide my words. I used to carry the weight of saying “the right thing” perfectly, but I’ve learned that it’s not about me. Christ saves, not us. Even if our words feel clumsy, Jesus can use them in powerful ways.
3. Build Connection First
People are far more likely to hear us when they know us. Take the time to build a genuine connection. Listen, care, and show up for them. Relationships lay the foundation for Gospel conversations.
4. Lead with Actions
Acts of service and compassion speak louder than words, especially during tough times. When someone is hurting or facing illness, your kindness can be a powerful testimony. When they ask why you care, the answer is simple: you care because Jesus cares, and you are His hands and feet.
5. Approach with Sensitivity
Depending on your relationship, it might be easier to speak with the person privately. This can create a safe and open space for them to share their thoughts and feelings.
6. Discover Where They Are
Ask gentle, leading questions to understand their spiritual journey. Questions like, “Are you a member of a faith community?” or “What are your biggest concerns right now?” can open the door to meaningful conversations. If they’re willing, ask, “May I pray for you?”
7. Be Prepared to Share Your Hope
As 1 Peter 3:15 reminds us, “Always be prepared to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” Be ready to explain why you believe, but always approach the conversation with kindness and humility.
8. Share Your Testimony
One of the most powerful tools you have is your own story. When people ask me why I’m confident in my faith, I share this: “I’m confident because of the evidence—the evidence of who I was before Christ saved me and who I became after. The evidence of His work in my life, especially during the hardest times. The evidence of ‘coincidences’ that could only be the hand of God. I know He is the way, the truth, and the life. And the best part? He loves me, and He loves you just as much.”
9. Be Consistent
Consistency shows sincerity. Keep showing up, praying, and being a steady presence in their life. Faithful love and support can speak volumes.
10. Don’t Be Disappointed
You may not see immediate results, and that’s okay. Sharing the Gospel plants seeds of hope. Until someone’s final breath, they can choose Jesus. Trust that God is working, even when you can’t see it.
Sharing the Gospel is a journey, both for you and for the person receiving it. Keep trusting, praying, and loving with all your heart. You are doing Kingdom work, and I’m so grateful for your faithfulness.
With all my heart and here for you,
Dr. Pamela
